Bangladesh is proud of her production of finished leather. The demand for the country’s finished leather is always in higher side due to the quality. The standard of Leather Technology Engineering Education of the University of Dhaka is high. The qualified graduate leather engineers work for all the Tanneries of the country. At present about 214 Tanneries are in operation to produce leather of caw, calf, Goats & Buffalo. Leather is exported in two forms i.e. finished & crust.
Yearly production of leather is over 128.61 million sqft. The country has exported US $ 99.07 million during the year 2008-2009.
